Water Polo Downed at Davis Shootout

Feb. 22, 2004

DAVIS, Calif. - The Santa Clara University women's water polo team dropped two matches today to close out play at the 24th annual Davis Shootout, hosted by UC Davis at its newly-opened Schaal Aquatics Center. The Broncos fell to 14th-ranked UC Davis 11-2 and 20th-ranked CS Northridge 5-1. Santa Clara is now 7-8 on the season.

"I thought we played well in every facet of the game today, with the exception of shooting" head coach Keith Wilbur said. "We just need to put more points on the board. However, the quality of the game was there and that's a good first step."

Catherine Flynn scored the Broncos' only goal against the Matadors. Anne Ginotti protected the cage and collected 12 blocks. Against the Aggies, Flynn and Kathleen Hamm scored one each, and both drew two kick outs apiece. Katy Shumm was credited with a stellar defensive game, notching six steals. Kristin Barnes was in goal for the second contest, and netted nine saves and three steals.

The Broncos return home and host Sonoma State on Sunday, Feb. 29 at the Leavey Pool. Admission is free, with the contest starting at 1 p.m.
