Broncos Drop Tough 10-5 Decision to No. 14 Aggies

March 4, 2006

Davis, Calif. - The Santa Clara women's water polo came in confident against No. 14 UC Davis, but came up short of a victory in a 10-5 loss this afternoon at the Schaal Aquatics Center. Five different Broncos put the ball in the back of the net, but it was the physical nature of the Aggies that really made a difference in the game according to head coach Keith Wilbur.

"It was a tough game. We came out pretty well in the first quarter and we stuck to our game plan. They got really physical in the second quarter and we didn't match it like we needed to," stated Wilbur.

. IT was 3-2 after the first quarter. We stuck to our game plan but Davis responded well and was really physical in the second quarter. They played extremely physical and we didn't match it like we needed to.

Senior co-captains Lindsey Bacolini and Alanna Simpkins each registered a goal, while Brianna Anderson, Emily Bonk, and Elizabeth Perry each added a goal in the losing effort. Bacolini also chipped in with one assist and a team-high three steals. Kristin Barnes manned the defense, as the goalie tallied eight blocks in the game.

"I hate saying it, but it was a learning experience for our team. We saw some things we needed to improve upon. I think Davis is a team we are capable of beating, but we have some improvement ahead of us to do so."

Santa Clara drops its overall record this season to 9-5 on the year and will return to action next weekend at the UC Santa Barbara Tournament. The first game will be against Redlands on Saturday, March 11 at 9:15 a.m.
