Santa Clara, Calif. - After graduating leading scorer Catherine Flynn last season, No. 20 Santa Clara had many questions heading into the 2006 year, namely who would replace all those goals garnered by Flynn. Fortunately for head coach Keith Wilbur, the entire team has stepped up to the task and a balanced attack has served the Broncos well in 2006, especially today in a 12-3 victory over visiting UC Santa Cruz. Nine different players put the ball through the net this afternoon at the Leavey Center Pool, with Emily Bonk and Elizabeth Perry leading the way with two goals apiece.

Santa Clara improves its record to 18-6 with today's victory and will return to action this weekend at the Davis Shootout, held on the campus of UC Davis. Among the competition expected in the two-day tournament include No. 4 Loyola Marymount and No. 13 UC San Diego.

In the first quarter, Santa Clara jumped out to a 5-1 lead thanks to two goals by Perry. However, the Broncos failed to score any goals in the second quarter, forcing Wilbur to give an inspiring half-time speech. His team responded, putting the game away after totaling five goals in the third quarter.

"I was pleased with our second-half effort. We need everyone to work hard all the time to give ourselves more offensive options. Today was good preparation for this weekend," stated Wilbur.

In addition to Bonk and Perry, Brianna Anderson, Lindsey Bacolini, Amy Lamb, Claire Linney, Katie Radvanyi, Mele Rehder, and Alanna Simpkins all had a goal each. Miller and Simpkins also had an outstanding all-around game, as they both tallied two assists and two steals in the winning effort. Radvanyi was also able to draw three kickouts. On defense, Kristin Barnes and Randahl Capurro split time in the cage and did an excellent job swatting away the Banana Slugs' attack, combing for nine saves.
