Zachary Schmidt is in his first year as assistant director, sports medicine. He coordinates care for the softball team.

Prior to working at Santa Clara, Schmidt completed a residency in orthopedics & diagnostics at Boston University and coordinated care for field hockey, track and field/cross country, club ice hockey, and men's lacrosse. Zach's efforts helped the BU men's lacrosse team to their first ever Patriot League Championship.

Schmidt graduated from Montana State University in 2018 with a bachelor of science in kinesiology and a minor in coaching. During his time at MSU, he coached youth lacrosse and was a student assistant in the athletic training room, working primarily with the football team. Following graduation, Schmidt went to Boston for graduate school at Boston University, where he earned his master's of science in athletic training. During his time at BU, he completed clinical rotations with BU, Emerson College, Terre Haute Fire Department, and University of Arizona.

After completing his master's, he was hired at his alma mater and completed a two year residency in orthopaedics & diagnostics, a rigorous educational and clinical program with the goal of orthopedic expertise. During the residency, Schmidt became competent in musculoskeletal ultrasound, an imaging modality he utilizes during most orthopedic evaluations.

Born in Kelowna, B.C., Canada, Zach moved to Polson, Montna at 12. He enjoys playing video games, skateboarding and longboarding, cooking, exploring, camping, hiking, snowboarding, and mountain biking. He resides in San Jose and is a fan of the Toronto Blue Jays, Vancouver Canucks, Utah Jazz, and the Oxford comma.
