Bronco Cross Country Announces Class of 2016

Bronco Cross Country Announces Class of 2016

The Santa Clara University men's and women's cross country teams will welcome a deep and talented recruiting class again this fall. The two Bronco teams combined to sign 12 incoming freshmen student-athletes for the Class of 2016.

The women's team will welcome four new freshmen in late August as Santa Clara begins cross country practice for the upcoming season.  "Camille, Allison, Elsa and Kate have had a great deal of success in the classroom and have developed into competitive distance runners during their time in high school," said Bronco head coach Felipe Montoro. "I am excited to get them on campus later this month and training with our women to further their development. All four of them have a great deal of potential to help the team in the coming years."

The Bronco men will welcome seven new runners and Montoro is equally excited about them as well.  "It was important for us to bring in a strong recruiting class this year as we were graduating a lot of seniors who had made strong contributions during their time at SCU," said Montoro.  "We definitely did that with this class.  On paper at least, this is our best men's recruiting class ever. I am pleased that every year faster recruits decide that SCU is where they can reach their goals as a student-athlete. It would appear that Adrian Hinojosa from Bellarmine, David Leavy from Jesuit and Alexi Taylor from Cardinal Newman have the best shot at contributing right away, but I wouldn't be surprised if any of these guys make an immediate impact in the top seven this coming fall."

The Bronco cross country teams continue to lead the Santa Clara athletic department in the classroom as well as doing well as runners as well.  The men's cross country team led all Bronco teams with a 3.527 GPA during the Spring 2012 quarter.  It is the fourth straight quarter they have led the men's side.  They also have the top cumulative GPA at 3.461 as well.

On the women's side, the cross country team posted the highest GPA at 3.485 for the Spring 2012 quarter.  It is the fifth time in six quarters the women's team has led the women's side in term GPA.  Women's cross country has the highest cumulative GPA at 3.436
