Men's Rowing Turns Sights to Sacramento State Dual Saturday

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Coming off the season-opening Davis Invitational March 2, Santa Clara men's rowing is back out on the water for Saturday's Sacramento State Dual in Rancho Cordova, Calif.

"We are looking forward to reviving the dual race between Santa Clara and Sacramento State," second-year head coach Jay Farwell said. "It has not been on our schedule for a number of years now but the racing between these crews has always been competitive."

Farwell said his team performed well under difficult conditions last weekend, which included rowing against an outgoing tide and a strong head wind. The Broncos posted first-place finishes in the 2nd N4+ and 2nd N8+ races.

"It was great to get the team in a racing environment and compete against two first-rate programs in Stanford and UC Davis," Farwell said. "There were a number of guys who competed in more than one event and that experience will certainly pay off down the road."

Saturday will mark the second of three competitions in a 12-day span for the Broncos. Farwell described the five days between events as having a high volume of work, highlighted by a 2k erg test Wednesday.

"The team is looking to build off of last week's performance," Farwell said. "This weekend is very important as we are setting the stage for next weekend when we race UC San Diego and Gonzaga in an early season matchup."
