SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara men's rowing had a strong start to the season Saturday when it took down UC Davis in six races at Lexington Reservoir. The Broncos and Aggies competed in the Varsity 8 twice, the 2nd Varsity 8, Novice 8, 2nd Novice 8, and Varsity 4.

Santa Clara won the two Varsity 8 races by 13 and 16.5 seconds. The Broncos' largest margin of victory was 32 seconds in the 2nd Novice 8 race. They also beat the Aggies by 29 seconds in the 2nd Varsity 8 race.

"We had a good start to our racing season," Santa Clara head coach Jay Farwell said. "The team performed well. We have a number of things to tighten up from a technical standpoint and need to find some more speed but overall this was a good beginning for us. Next week is going to be a good test for us and give us an early indication as to where we stand within conference."

The Broncos are back on the water Friday and Saturday at the San Diego Crew Classic. They will race UC San Diego, San Diego, Gonzaga, and Loyola Marymount.
