Men's and Women's Rowing Set for WIRAs

WIRAs Schedule

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara men's and women's rowing head to the WIRA Championships Saturday and Sunday on Lake Natoma in Rancho Cordova, Calif. The men will look to defend their title in the Varsity 8 race with the women looking for a final tune-up before the West Coast Conference Championships May 13.

"We are ready for WIRAs," Santa Clara men's head coach Jay Farwell said. "We expect some very competitive racing, particularly with UC Santa Barbara, UC San Diego, UC Irvine, and Orange Coast College in the Varsity 8, 2nd Varsity 8, and Novice 8 events. We are racing in a number of events this weekend and a lot of our team will be racing in more than one event. This is a great regatta to get guys multiple races in a championship setting. We are obviously focused on the Varsity 8 event and return as defending champions."

The Bronco men have had a strong season up to this point and are looking to learn from their earlier competitions as they head into the most important stretch of the season.

"We have a lot more depth than in years past and we are looking for guys who are participating in multiple events to really step up their game this weekend," Farwell said. "The Stanford Invite two weeks ago was great preparation for this weekend and multi-event racing. This weekend is really important as we continue to prep for Western Sprints - the IRA Regatta qualifier on May 13th."

The women have been off since April 8 when they competed against Saint Mary's.
