Men's Soccer Releases Spring Schedule

March 11, 2003

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara University men's soccer program released its Spring 2003 game schedule Tuesday morning, and on it is seven games with the possibility of adding an eighth in May.

The men's team, who finished with a 10-6-1 overall record and was left just on the outside of the NCAA Tournament, begins its quest to return to the tournament with a strong Spring schedule. They begin their Spring season with a game on Thursday, March 13th, at home against the University of Calgary.

Following their opener they will travel to Berkeley, Calif., to take on Sacramento State and California on Wednesday, April 12th. The Broncos will face the Hornets at 1:15, followed by the Golden Bears at 3 p.m.

Santa Clara will host San Francisco and UC Santa Cruz on Wednesday, April 19th. The Dons and the Broncos will play at 9:30 a.m. followed by the Banana Slugs and Broncos at Noon.

On Saturday, May 3rd the Broncos will take on the 2002 NCAA Division II National Champion, Sonoma State Cossacks, at 10 a.m. on the Mission Campus. They will also face the 2002 NCAA Division I National Runner-Up, Stanford Cardinal, on Saturday, May 17th at 10:30 a.m. on The Farm.

"We are very excited about our Spring schedule. There are several chances in there for us to grow and get better as a team. It should be a real springboard into our Europe trip and the 2003 season."
Head Coach Cameron Rast

Their final game of the 2003 Spring season is still tentatively scheduled for Satuday, May 23rd at 10 a.m. at West Valley College when the Broncos are slated to take on the San Jose Earthquakes of Major League Soccer. This will be a chance for the Broncos to take on former teammate Jamil Walker who was drafted by the Earthquakes in the off-season.

"We are very excited about our Spring schedule," said head coach Cameron Rast. "There are several chances in there for us to grow and get better as a team. It should be a real springboard into our Europe trip and the 2003 season."

Rast will take his Broncos over to Europe in August for their preseason, giving them a chance to begin training a few days early and get some much needed game time under their belts prior to the start of the '03 schedule. The team is slated to visit London and Manchester during their 10-day trip this summer.
