OAKLAND, Calif. - Soccer America Magazine's annual preseason poll is out and the Santa Clara University men's soccer team is ranked 13th overall and the highest among the three West Coast Conference teams included.
WCC teams behind the Broncos are San Francisco at 15th and Loyola Marymount in the number 24 position.
The Broncos play five teams this season that are ranked in the Soccer America preseason poll, including its opener against 2nd ranked UCLA on September 2 in Fullerton, Calif. A week later, Santa Clara travels to College Park, Md. to play the 4th-ranked Maryland Terrapins.
"We've got our work cut out for us, that's for sure," said SCU head coach Cameron Rast. "We've only had a few days of practice, but I like the way our guys are approaching each training session and we are making fairly quick progress. Of course, time will tell and we are expecting to improve as the season goes along. But, the boys are giving maximum effort and I'm pleased with where we are right now."
