SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara men's soccer team brings their Midwest road trip to a close at the Middleton Sports & Fitness Invite, hosted by the University of Wisconsin. The Broncos will battle the Badgers on Friday, Sept. 5 at 3 p.m. PT and then face the Panthers of UW-Milwaukee on Sunday, Sept. 7 at 1 p.m. PT. Both games will be held at the McClimon Memorial Complex in Madison, Wis.

Last Time Out
The Broncos suffered a pair of setbacks to open the season, falling at Loyola-Chicago, 2-1, before dropping a 4-3 decision at No. 16 ranked Illinois-Chicago. Junior Jeff Cosgriff netted two goals over the weekend, scoring the Broncos' lone goal versus Loyola-Chicago and adding a score against UIC. Ross Smith and Brian Martin scored their first goals of the season in the loss to UIC. Sophomore keeper Jeremy Del Re made his first collegiate appearance against Loyola and then made his first collegiate start between the posts against UIC.
In The Polls
Despite the losses during the opening weekend, Santa Clara remains ranked in all major polls. The Broncos highest ranking of the week, 12th in the nation, was awarded by Soccer America. SCU is No. 13, No. 14 and No. 20 in TopDrawerSoccer's, College Soccer News' and the NSCAA's polls, respectively.
Cosgriff Connects
Midfielder Cosgriff has already matched his 2007 season goals tally in just the first weekend of the 2008 season. The San Bruno native netted his first goal of the year, the Broncos only of the day, against Loyola Chicago. He then put the Broncos on the board against the Flames of UIC for goal No. 2. His career count currently stands at eight goals.
Scouting Wisconsin
The Badgers enter the weekend after a pair of wins at the Dayton Flyer Classic against Wright State and Denver. Four different players have scored one goal thus far for Wisconsin; with Pablo Delgado leading the pack with three points (1G, 1A). Alex Horwath has started both games for the Badgers in goal this season, posting 10 saves.

Scouting UW-Milwaukee
The Panthers enter the weekend with a 0-1-1 record. Last weekend Milwaukee was swept, 2-0, by Drake and then tied Missouri State, 1-1. Evan Bartzis currently leads the team's scoring efforts with one goal and two points. In goal, Grant Fernstrum has played all 200 minutes thus far, posting 12 saves. Last season, the Panthers went 5-12-3 overall and finished second in the Horizon League with a 5-2-1 record.

Sunday's contest is the first meeting between the Broncos and Panthers.

SCU opens its 2008 home schedule on Friday, Sept. 12 with the adidas Challenge. The Broncos will host the No. 8 Bears of California at 7 p.m. at Buck Shaw Stadium.
