Marcell Hlousek joined the coaching staff three seasons ago following an outstanding four-year playing career at Santa Clara. He assists the men's program in practice plans and strength and conditioning.

"As he was in his playing days, Marcell is very committed to the success of Bronco Tennis," head coach George Husack said. "His experience as an attacking singles player, and his uncanny understanding of doubles positioning, continue to have a great impact on the program."

During his tenure as a Bronco, Hlousek captured 56 singles and 59 doubles victories, with both marks placing him in the Bronco recordbooks--fourth all-time in singles victories and second in doubles. As a freshman in 1997, he set a record for single-season wins with 20 and also made his mark in doubles, teaming with Jeremy Testwuide '99 to post 17 victories en route to setting a single-season doubles tandem record. Hlousek's success in doubles earned him two All-West Coast Conference honors with partners Lars Nelson '00 and Testwuide.

"It's been exciting to see that the current players have the same passion and motivation that I had when I was representing the Broncos as a student-athlete," Hlousek said. "They give everything they have to the sport. I enjoy contributing to my alma mater because I want the players on the team to have the same positive experience that I had as well as set a new level of success for the program."

At San Mateo High School, Hlousek compiled a 60-5 career mark and was a two-time P.A.L. singles champion.

Hlousek earned his bachelor's degree in finance in 2000. He is also a certified emergency medical technician and is also employed as a firefighter for the city of Santa Clara at Station No. 2. A native of Foster City, Calif., Hlousek is single and resides in Santa Clara.
