No. 12 Santa Clara Falls To No. 14 UC Davis, 6-4

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The No. 12 Santa Clara men's water polo team suffered a 6-4 loss today to No. 14 UC Davis in the Broncos final regular-season match of the year.  Santa Clara finishes the season with an overall record of 17-14 heading into next week's WWPA Championships at the Sullivan Aquatic Center.

 

The loss was the third this season by the Broncos to the Aggies.  Santa Clara fell behind 2-1 after the first quarter, but came back to tie it four-all at halftime.

 

UC Davis scored twice in the third quarter to take the lead, and those two goals would stand as the last two of the game as the Aggies went on to the 6-4 victory.

 

Bronco junior goalie Michael Wishart made 10 saves in a full-game effort.  Santa Clara had four different players score: freshman David Guibord in the first quarter, senior Josh Luebke and juniors James Case and Brett Zylstra in the second quarter.

 

The WWPA Championships, hosted by Santa Clara, will begin Friday, Nov. 19 and run through Sunday, Nov. 21.
