The Santa Clara women's basketball team opened the 2000-2001 season with a 69-50 victory tonight over the University of the Pacific Tigers at Bellarmine College Preparatory's Gym in San Jose.
Santa Clara (1-0) was led this evening by senior center Annie Garrison who finished with a team-high 16 points and 12 rebounds. Garrison was one of four Broncos in double-figures as senior Kim Sorenson finished with 14, including four three-point baskets, junior Caroline Gruening recorded 12 and junior point guard Becki Ashbaugh finished with 11.
The Broncos shot 40.0 percent from the field this evening, including a 43.8 percent from beyond the arc as Santa Clara drilled seven three-point baskets. Meanwhile, the Broncos limited Pacific to 30.0 percent shooting from the field as the Tigers were just 15-of-50 from the floor.
Pacific (0-1) was led this evening by forward Millie Kimpton who finished with a game-high 18 points and five rebounds.
Santa Clara returns to action on Monday, November 20 as the Broncos travel to No. 14 Stanford for a match in Maples Pavilion. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m. and will be broadcast live on Fox Sports Bay Area.
