Two Women's Basketball Players Named WCC All-Academic

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – With the end of the regular season here and the conference tournament fast approaching, Santa Clara women's basketball had two players named to the West Coast Conference All-Academic Team. Nici Gilday was named to the All-Academic Team while Ruta Zurauskyte was named Honorable Mention.

 "Our players here know that academics are the most important thing," said Santa Clara head coach Jennifer Mountain. "Our girls enjoy the challenges that their academics bring and have a terrific job of taking it seriously. I'm proud of both our players for finding success on the court and in the classroom." 

Gilday maintains a 3.64 GPA in Finance and is leading the Broncos in scoring this season with 16.5 points per game. She leads the team in free throw shooting with an 87.9% (109-124) mark while adding 3.0 rebounds per game, 2.5 assists per game, and 1.5 steals per game. On Feb. 27 Gilday set a program record with 40 points vs. LMU. This is the first academic award for Gilday.

Zurauskyte is a MBA student with a 3.41 GPA in graduate school. She is third on the team with 7.8 ppg and is third in the WCC with a 53.5% (85-159) shooting percentage. Zurauskyte adds 3.9 rpg and is tops on Santa Clara with 23 blocks. She was also named WCC All-Academic Honorable Mention in 2010-11.
