SAN MARTIN, Calif. - The Santa Clara women's golf team hosted a triangular Wednesday at CordeValle in San Martin, Calif. Hosting local WCC rival USF and Harvard, the Broncos were up against quality competition, but strong play through fierce winds and a tournament-best round of 77 by freshman Jamie Nonaka propelled the Broncos to victory.

Coming in on Nonaka's heels and taking second place was junior Corey Utsurogi who was only one stroke behind at 78. Other team scorers for Santa Clara included senior Samantha Trask, who shot 82, good for seventh place, Ella Sanman with an 84 in ninth place, and Erin Sullivan in 18th place with an 87. Competing as individuals and without team affiliation were Jennifer Sun and Hilaire Fouts, who finished 12th and 18th with rounds of 85 and 87, respectively.

"We did well come come away with a win," said head coach Polly Schulze. "It was awesome. The two teams we played are ranked higher than us, so playing on our home course was definitely an advantage. It was windy, but I'm glad we were able to take care of business and get a win against two tough teams."

In addition to the victory, it was a landmark day for freshman Nonaka, who earned her first collegiate win.

The Broncos will look to take this momentum into next weekend's Stanford Peg Barnard Invitational, which begins Friday, April 6.
