Softball Adds Two to Bronco Program

July 9, 2003

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara University softball head coach Marcy Crouch announced the additions of Suzanne Dallas of Atwater and Valerie Mock of Clinton, Wash., to the Bronco program. Dallas is a transfer from UC Riverside and joins the Bronco program with two years of eligibility remaining, while Mock will be a true freshman.

An infielder from Atwater High School, Dallas will be a junior when she arrives on campus. Last season at UC Riverside, Dallas registered four runs and four RBIs, starting 22 contests. At Atwater, she was a four-time first-team All-League selection, a three-time All-District and team MVP honoree. She also lettered in volleyball at Atwater, and played with current Bronco volleyball team member Toni Muratore. Dallas was a member of the West Bay Nuggets travel softball team that placed fifth at the U18 Gold Nationals in 2000.

"I am very excited to add an athlete of Suzanne's caliber to our team," Crouch said. "She is a tough competitor who will make an immediate impact on our program because of her talent and her knowledge of the game."

Mock joins early signee Angela Kabanuck of Petaluma as the Bronco class of 2007. From South Whidbey High School, Mock plays first base and outfield. A four-year letter winner, she hit .370 on the season while leading the team to a third-place finish at the 2003 state championship. Mock competes with the Washington Lady Hawks U18 A travel team.

"Valerie is a great addition to our program because of her academic as well as athletic resumes," Crouch said. "She is a powerful lefty who will bring passionate energy to the field every day."

Crouch, the Pacific Coast Softball Conference Coach of the Year, led the Broncos to a second-place finish in the inaugural year of the PCSC. In her fourth year at the helm of the SCU program, Crouch guided the team through a milestone season, posting a record 30 victories, more than any other Bronco squad in the 25-year history of the program, and setting numerous season marks in the process.
