Rain Washes Out Softball's Game Sunday

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Heavy rains that swept through the Sacramento area overnight and into this morning have forced the cancellation of Sunday's entire slate of Capital Classic Softball Tournament games.

Santa Clara and UIC were supposed to play at 9 a.m., and Sacramento State was scheduled to play Towson at 11:15 a.m., but both games have been canceled and will not be made up.

Rain constantly wreaked havoc on the four-team tournament. Originally, the tournament was supposed to feature eight games over three days, but only two games were played. UIC defeated Towson, 5-2, on Friday morning before the remainder of Friday's schedule was canceled, and UIC knocked off Santa Clara, 8-2, in a rain-shortened game Saturday morning before the rest of that day was canceled as well.

Of the four-team tournament field, only host Sacramento State did not get to play. UIC finished the tournament with a 2-0 record while both Towson and Santa Clara went 0-1.
