The 2010 West Coast Conference Spring All-Academic Teams
SAN BRUNO, Calif. (July 2, 2010) – Santa Clara University women’s golfers headlined the list of the 2010 West Coast Conference Spring All-Academic honorees. SCU had nine student-athletes earn the award, which recognizes the league’s finest examples of the consummate scholar-athlete.
At the completion of each athletic season, the WCC selects an all-academic squad for each of the participating sponsored sports. To be considered, a student-athlete must earn at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, while also being a significant contributor to his or her team.
“The West Coast Conference is proud to recognize these extraordinary student-athletes for their exemplary efforts in the classroom and on the playing field,” said WCC Commissioner Jamie Zaninovich. “These individuals personify the core values of our member institutions and prove that athletic success can be achieved without compromising academic excellence.”
Women’s golf led all Santa Clara spring programs with three players named. Erin Sullivan - a National Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar - was joined on the list by Miki Ueoka and Jamie Nonaka, who both earned All-WCC playing honors at the 2010 WCC Championships.
Another SCU All-America scholar, baseball’s Curtis Wagner, earned his second consecutive WCC All-Academic team honor. Wagner made the list as a sophomore last season and was a unanimous choice as a junior in 2010. Wagner hit .404 while maintaining 3.8 cum GPA. Wagner was named an ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-American earlier this spring.
A number of SCU student-athletes were tabbed as honorable mention selections, including Gabrielle Alexander, Katie Caudle, Mary Daley and Laurel Schuster of women’s rowing. Sophomore Kacie Wagner represented the women’s tennis team on the honorable mention list.
