Santa Clara Golf Signs Local Star Taylor Camany

Nov. 23, 2009

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara University and women's golf head coach Polly Schulze announced the signing of Taylor Camany (Salinas, Calif./Salinas High School) to a National Letter of Intent. Camany will attend Santa Clara in the fall 2010 quarter and play for the Broncos in 2010-11.

One of the top high school golfers in Northern California, Camany is fresh off a sixth-place finish at the 2009 California State Championships at Poppy Hills. She has earned first team all-conference honors in four straight seasons and posted a 74.6 scoring average in 18 tournaments.

"Taylor will undoubtedly be an instant contributor," said Schulze. "She is an academically superior student, which is very important to us here at Santa Clara, and one of the best players in California. In my mind, Taylor is the perfect fit for SCU."

Camany has two recent tournament wins on the Northern California Junior Tour (NCJT), out-playing the field at Foxtail Golf Course in September and at the Rancho Canada Golf Course earlier this month. She also earned a tournament win at a Junior Golf Association of Northern California (JGANC) event in Salinas.

She led Salinas High School to their first ever birth to NorCals where she placed 4th individually with a solid even par 72, qualifying her for the California State Championships. Camany is taught by nationally renowned golf instructor Laird Small at Pebble Beach.
