Ahasic Named Academic All-American

June 8, 2004

NORMAN, Okla. - Santa Clara University men's golfer Justin Ahasic was named a Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar recipient for the second consecutive season, the Golf Coaches Association of America announced.

The senior from Aurora, Ill., boasts a 3.537 GPA and is set to graduate this weekend with a degree in English. Ahasic led the Broncos in his final collegiate season, averaging 75.7 strokes per round this past year, with 26 of his 31 competitive rounds carded in the 70s or lower. He became the first Bronco golfer to medal twice in one season, winning both the SCU and UC Irvine Invitationals, and was named team MVP at least week's season-ending banquet.

"Justin has helped set the standard in many areas of Bronco golf," head coach John Kennaday said. "He will be missed, but at the same time, we're excited about the bright future that lies ahead of him."

He is one of two golfers from the West Coast Conference to be honored by the GCAA, joined by Pepperdine's Michael Putnam. Please Click Here for the complete list of recipients.

Ahasic, who is also a 2003 All-Academic Team member, is only the second two-time Academic All-America Scholar selection in Bronco program history, following Tony Okano's awards in 2000 and '01.
