Men's Golf Completes Day One of Countrywide Intercollegiate

SIMI VALLEY, Calif. - The Santa Clara University men's golf team played the first two rounds of the Bill Cullum/Countrywide Intercollegiate hosted by Cal State Northridge Monday at the Wood Ranch Golf Club in Simi Valley, Calif. SCU posted team scores of 299 and 311 for a first day total of 610, placing them 18th out of 20 teams heading into Tuesday's third and final round.

Blake Lugar was the highest finisher for the Broncos after his rounds of 72 and 73 gave him a first day total of 1-over par, 145. Lugar is in a eight way tie for 17th place heading into day two.

Jonathan Edwards is in a tie for 88th place after rounds of 76 and 79 while Justin Ahasic is tied for 92nd, one shot behind Edwards, following his rounds of 76 and 80. Michael Nicoletti is currently 13-over par and in a tie for 98th place after his first day total of 157 (78-79). Matt Klenz rounded out the Broncos' scores with his day one total of 158 after shooting rounds of 75 and 83 (14-over).

Ryan Thornberry of Cal State Stanislaus and Ryan Dwight of Cal Poly currently share the lead in the tournament at 6-under par after each player fired a 68 and 70 on the day.

Cal State Stanislaus leads the team tournament after a pair of rounds at 286. Their two round total of 572 is three shots betts than New Mexico State who recorded rounds of 282 and 293 on Monday.

The third and final round will be contested Tuesday morning at the par-72 Wood Ranch Golf Club that measures 6,707 yards in length.

Following Tuesday's final round, the Broncos will return to action next Monday and Tuesday as they host the SCU Invitational at the Silver Creek Valley Country Club in San Jose.
