KAHUKU, Hawaii - The Santa Clara University men's golf team fired a season-high 322 at the final round of the University of Hawaii-Turtle Bay Intercollegiate to finish the tournament in 11th place Tuesday afternoon at the Links at Turtle Bay Golf Course. The Broncos ended the tournament with a team total of 927, 36-strokes behind co-Champions South Carolina and Hawaii.
Justin Ahasic fired the best round of the day for the Broncos with his 7-over par, 79, placing him in a tie for 38th with a two day total of 15-over par, 231. Ahasic was the only Bronco to shoot in the 70's for all three rounds of the tournament.
Michael Nicoletti was the top finisher for the Borncos with his two day total of 12-over par, 228, placing him in a tie for 26th despite a final round 80. Jong Yoon ended the tournament in a tie for 33rd with is tournament total of 14-over par, 230, following his 82 on Tuesday.
Matt Klenz carded an 81 on Tuesday, pushing his three round total to 22-over par, 238, and placing him in a tie for 69th. Blake Lugar rounded out the scoring for Santa Clara with his 83 on Tuesday, giving him a tournament total of 39-over par, 255, which placed him 91st out of 97 golfers.
Both South Carolina and Hawaii finished with team totals of 891, four shots ahead of third place finisher Virginia. Saint Mary's finished fourth with a team total of 900 after a final round 301 as a team on Tuesday.
Individual Robert Svensson of South Carolina captured Medallist honors with his three round total of 2-under par, 214. He carded rounds of 71, 72 and 71 during the two days. Alvara Velasco of Coastal Carolina finished second, just one stroke behind Svensson after rounds of 71, 71 and 73 gave him a two day total of 1-under par, 215.
Tuesday's final round was Santa Clara's last for the Fall season. The Broncos will return to the links on February 23-24 at the UC Irvine Anteater Invitational. The Anteater Invite will be the first of four tournaments that lead up the West Coast Conference Championships on April 12-13.
