SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -

Sophomore transfer Jamil Walker (Rochester, N.Y.) scored in his third-straight game as a Bronco to lead Santa Clara to a 2-1 victory over Cal Poly in Sunday's game in the San Francisco Diadora Classic hosted by the University of San Francisco.

Walker took a pass from senior Michael Goehring (Fresno, Calif.) in front of the goal and completed a quick-hitting, low crossing shot for a 1-0 Bronco lead just 16:20 into the game. The goal marked the first score of the season for the Broncos during a first half of play and was Walker's third goal of the season.

"I thought we showed a lot of improvement today," said head coach Mitch Murray "We looked really good in the first half and through most of the second half. Cal Poly has a tough, physical team that does not give up. When they scored in the second half, I was happy with the way our guys kept battling and didn't back down. We still have a few guys injured but we are playing through those setbacks and have improved every match."

Santa Clara's second score came on an own goal by Cal Poly's Eli McGarva just before halftime. Interestingly, the game's second own goal proved to be Cal Poly's only score at the 62:04 mark of the game. Junior keeper Rusty Johnson (O'Fallon, Ill.) had played over 152 minutes without giving up a goal prior to SCU's own goal.

The Broncos next face Oregon State on Friday at 5 p.m. in the first game of the Washington Husky Classic in Seattle, Wash. Santa Clara faces host Washington on Sunday at 2:15 p.m.
