SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara men's soccer team (8-7-0, 2-2-0 WCC) will host a Stephen Negoesco-led San Francisco squad for the final time Tuesday in a key late-season West Coast Conference match. Tuesday's match will mark the final game at Buck Shaw Stadium for USF coach Negoesco. The winningest coach in NCAA history, Negoesco owns a 544-170-66 overall record since taking over at San Francisco program in 1962. An All-America player at USF in 1949, he coached the Dons to five NCAA titles and is the only coach in college soccer history to record over 500 wins.

"Coach Negoesco has meant a great deal to the game of soccer and, in particular, to the development of soccer in the Bay Area," said Santa Clara Head Coach Mitch Murray. "With Tuesday serving as his last game at Buck Shaw Stadium, it will be an emotional night for everyone connected with the Santa Clara program."

In Santa Clara's last outing, junior Anthony Chimienti (San Jose, Calif.) scored two second-half goals to lead the Broncos to a 3-0 win over Saint Mary's in a WCC match at Buck Shaw Stadium. The three-goal margin of victory was only the fifth time this season Saint Mary's lost by more than one goal and was the sixth shutout of the season for Santa Clara and the seventh straight win overall in the series against the Gaels.

The Broncos hold an active five-match win streak heading into Tuesday's contest. However, San Francisco holds a 27-9-6 record against Santa Clara since the first meeting in 1967. Negoesco has led the Dons in all 42 matches between the two schools. Last season the Broncos escaped with a 1-0 overtime victory at Negoesco field. Bronco senior Sean-Michael Callahan scored a goal at the 109:59 mark from an assist by Justin Canel to win the game.

San Francisco is 8-8-2 on the season and 2-2-0 in the WCC following a 3-1 win over Saint Mary's on Oct. 27. The Dons have been idle since that match and have just a road game at Portland remaining on its schedule following Tuesday's SCU match.

Following Tuesday's San Francisco contest, Santa Clara will honor its three seniors in the final match of the 2000 regular season Saturday against Loyola Marymount. The match will mark the final regular-season contest for seniors Joe Ascolese (Chattaroy, Wash.), Brett Davis (Ranchos Palos Verdes, Calif.) and Michael Goehring (Fresno, Calif.).
