No. 16 Men’s Water Polo Set for Kap7 SoCal Invitational

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - After a week off from competition the Santa Clara men's water polo team, sitting at No. 16 in the nation, travels to Southern California this weekend for the Kap7 SoCal Invitational hosted by No.9 Pepperdine and No. 18 LMU.

"We are playing better on offense, both in the half court and power play opportunities," said head coach Keith Wilbur, commenting on the team's improvement from the start of the season. "The key for us is everybody being a threat, having good ball movement, and making good decisions.  We have been getting better at this, and when everything is clicking, our offense can be very good. Improving on defense is going to be key for us winning close games."

The 16-team tournament features 13 teams in the CWPA top-20 rankings, including the nine best teams in the country.

"This is another strong tournament with a lot of very good teams," Wilbur commented on the competition and his expectations. "I expect the team to keep improving, and I really want to see a commitment to playing great defense.  I also want to maintain the improvements we have made on offense.  This tournament is definitely great preparation for conference play."

The Broncos' first matchup comes against No. 5 Pacific on Saturday at 12 p.m. Next they will face No. 4 Cal or No. 18 LMU depending on game results. SCU will play a total of four games this weekend, with their schedule determined by game results.
