Women's Basketball Announces Senior John Nash Will Serve as Play-By-Play Announcer

By, Brandon Rebboah (SCU Media Relations)

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -
The Santa Clara University women's basketball program is proud to announce that senior John Nash,
one of the goalies with the Bronco men's water polo team and host of the Bronco Weekly Sports Wrap, will serve as the full-time play-by-play announcer in 2012-13. He replaces Sam Farber who has moved to Los Angeles full-time.

"We are really excited to add John to our program," said Santa Clara head coach Jennifer Mountain. "His Santa Clara experience and enthusiasm about being a Bronco will be a great asset in our program. I believe he has continued to expose our sport and genuinely cares about the success of our Athletics program."

Nash will call the women's basketball games both home and on the road on the Broncos' online GameCentral via Stretch Internet. A senior close to earning his Bachelors of Arts in Communication, Nash has been a mainstay on the athletic department's media relations team for three years, serving as a student assistant. The senior served as the play-by-play announcer for select Bronco baseball games during 2012 and also served in as a fill-in for a number of women's basketball games last season. Over the summer, the senior continued to further his radio experience by serving as an intern at 95.7 "The Game" where he interned for the early morning "Rise Guys" program.

Nash is also the co-anchor of SantaClaraBroncos.com's "Bronco Weekly Sports Wrap". Twice Nash has traveled to the West Coast Conference's basketball tournament in Las Vegas to serve as a student assistant to the WCC gaining on-air experience as well as behind the scenes experience in game coverage.

"I'm very excited about this opportunity to work with Coach Mountain and the Santa Clara women's basketball team," said Nash. "Landing a Division One college basketball play-by-play job is no easy feat and I can't wait to get started! I look forward to helping Bronco fans everywhere follow their women's basketball team!"

A native of Orinda, Calif., Nash is entering his fourth year as a goalkeeper of the Santa Clara men's water polo team. In both 2009, 10 and '11, Nash garnered All-Academic honors from both the Western Water Polo Association and Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches.
