SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Hitting the road for a West Coast Conference game, Santa Clara women's basketball fell at San Diego by a final 59-48. The loss pushes the Broncos to 12-9 overall and 4-4 in WCC play while San Diego moves to 14-7 overall and 6-3 in conference play.

The Broncos next play on Sat., Feb. 2 at 2 p.m. vs. BYU at the Leavey Center.

"A positive we can take away from tonight is that we see how close we are to being one of the elite teams in the conference," said Santa Clara head coach Jennifer Mountain. "Unfortunately, on the road, we didn't take care of business in the second half and we fell short today. We didn't score the ball. We've got to do a better job of being consistent."

Santa Clara shot 33.3% (17-51) from the field but just 2-12 from three. Lindsay Leo led the team with 15 points on 6-12 shooting from the field and pulled down 6 rebounds. Ricki Radanovich scored 12 on 3-9 shooting at 2-5 from deep. Raquel Avila had a team-best seven board while scoring six points and Ruta Zurauskyte scored six points with six rebounds.

Maya Hood had a game-high 16 points on 8-15 shooting with eight rebounds. Telyn McDaniel had a double-double with 10 points and 12 boards. Amy Kame scored 14 points on 5-15 shooting and Felicia Wijenberg scored 11 points to go along with seven rebounds. The Toreros shot 38.5% (25-65) from the field and 2-8 from deep.

Santa Clara scored on its first possession when Leo hit a jumper to put the Broncos up 2-0 in the first minute.

San Diego responded with a layup by Wijenberg at the 19:13 mark to even the score at 2-2.

The Broncos got up 9-8 on a three by Ricki Radanovich but the Toreros followed with a 6-0 run over three and a half minutes to build a lead of 14-9 with just over 10 minutes remaining in the half.

Zurauskyte ended the run with back-to-back layups to get the Broncos back within one at 14-13.

With the game tied at 21-21 with 3:23 left, Nici Gilday hit a jumper to put Santa Clara back on top at 23-21 but Wijenberg answered with a three to put San Diego back on top.

Wijenberg hit a layup with 20 seconds remaining in the half to put the score at 28-25 USD heading into the locker room.

Leo had a big first half to lead the Broncos with 12 points on 5-8 shooting. She also pulled down four boards and had two blocks. Radanovich had five points on 2-6 shooting and Zurauskyte had four points on 2-2 from the field. The Broncos shot 39.3% (11-28) from the field as a team in the first half but just 1-6 from deep.

Wijenberg scored a team-best nine points on 4-6 shooting while grabbing four rebounds. McDaniel and Hood each had a team-high five first half rebounds and scored two and four points respectively. Kame added seven points on 2-6 shooting from the field and 3-4 from the line. The Toreros shot 41.4% (12-29) from the field and 1-3 from downtown.

San Diego came out of halftime and went on a 6-0 run over the first minute and a half on two inside buckets and a jumper to go up 34-25.

Santa Clara got within eight at 43-35 with 10:29 left in the game on a layup by Raquel Avila but the Toreros scored five unanswered points to go up by a game-high 13 points at 48-35 with 7:41 remaining in the game.

The Broncos got the lead down to nine on a layup by Meagan Fulps at the 4:13 mark but that was as close as they would get.

USD went on an 8-0 run behind six points from Hood over two minutes that make the scored 58-41 with two minutes remaining.

Brooke Gallaway hit a free throw with 22 seconds left to end the scoring at 59-48 to give San Diego the win.
