SANTA CLARA, Calif.- With half the basketball season down, Meagan Fulps looks to finish out her last season here on the Mission campus on a good note. Recently, in the last game against Gonzaga, Fulps (MF) moved into ninth place all-time in points at Santa Clara. Along with this new accomplishment, Meagan Fulps has had an impressive career here for the Broncos, including setting the SCU record for free throws made, WCC All-Freshman Team, and top freshman scorer in the WCC.
So far the Broncos are 9-6 this season with 14 more games to go until they head off to the WCC tournament.
SCB: How does it feel to be about half way through your senior season here for the Broncos?
MF: I cannot even believe half of my senior year is over. It's incredible how fast time flies and it's saddening to think the end is nearing. Yet, there are so many games left to be played and I want nothing more than ending on a high note.
MF: It feels great to have accomplished something like this, but that was not a goal and is not a focus of mine. I don't like to set personal numerical goals, I just want to be a leader and captain my team can depend on day in and day out.
MF: The season has gone well. We have put ourselves in a good place in conference. There were definitely games that we should have won and played better during, but overall we are in a good position and playing good basketball. Defensively we need to improve, specifically contesting shooters, forcing baseline, being up the line, 40 minutes of intensity, etc. These are things we work on everyday in practice and hopefully those good habits roll over into our future games.
MF: I think something I have improved on over the years is slowing down and playing composed. Coach use to call me "mighty mouse on steroids" because I was always going fast. I've learned to control and adjust my speed depending on the situation.
MF: We have made so many memories over the years its very hard to pin point the best. But when thinking back I always am drawn to our run in Vegas freshman year. We didn't have a good season, but we went to Vegas as the last seed and made some noise. We upset San Diego at the buzzer and then cruised passed Portland! I was injured at time but those games were so fun. I almost passed out from screaming so much. It just goes to show you any team can beat any team on any given day.
MF: I will do whatever it takes to finish off this season on a high note. There is nothing I want more than for this team to finally reach its full potential. Every year I feel like we have fallen short and I will do anything to not let that happen this year. Everyday I plan on giving a 100% and doing whatever is needed by this team. I want to leave Santa Clara a better place than what it was before I came.
