Women's Water Polo Falls Twice at Slugfest Tournament

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - Santa Clara women's water polo lost to Cal Poly 10-9 in sudden death overtime this morning at Slugfest Tournament in one of three matches today at the East Field House Pool in Santa Cruz. The Broncos improve to 3-5 overall, 3-2 at the tournament.

Senior Kim Yost led all scorers with three goals, while sophomore Becky Hong added two. Senior Liz Schuricht, sophomore Kelley Mays, sophomore Carly Carpenter and junior Sarah Schmitt added one goal each. Senior Sarah Peterson posted eight blocks to lead the Bronco defensive effort in goal.

In the second game, the Broncos dropped a 9-5 decision to Davis Collegiate, a squad they topped in yesterday's play. Yost recorded three goals while sophomore Elizabeth Glotzbach added two. Peterson posted four blocks.

The Broncos earned a win in a third game that never was. The team's 5 p.m. match vs. Oregon was canceled as the Ducks forfeited the match, crediting the Broncos with a win.

The Broncos return to Santa Cruz next weekend to face UC Santa Cruz. The Saturday, Feb. 24 game will begin at 1:30 p.m.
