Medina Hired as Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Performance

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara hired Bob Medina as assistant athletic director for sports performance. Medina spent the last three seasons as BYU strength and conditioning coach where he worked with men's basketball.

Medina, who has extensive experience working in the NBA, will oversee all 20 Santa Clara sports.

Before going to BYU, Medina over two decades working in the NBA as a strength coach. From 1997-2013 he was the Portland Trail Blazers strength and conditioning coach.

With Portland, he managed and coordinated comprehensive and individualized in-season and off-season strength and conditioning programs. He also worked with the medical staff to prevent injury and speed recovery time.

From 1992-97 Medina was with the Seattle Supersonics in the same role.

During his time in the pro ranks, Medina was on the NBA All-Star staff three times.

Medina worked for legendary coach Jerry Tarkanian at UNLV from 1985-92. He was on staff for three Final Four appearances and one National Championship.

He is a member for the National Strength and Conditioning Association and the National Association of Speed and Explosions. He also has his Functional Movement Screening Certification and CES/PES Certification.

Medina graduated from UNLV in 1988 with a B.S. in athletic training.

He and his wife, LeeAnn, have four children.
