Outdoor Track Competes Well at Woody Wilson Invitational

As it moves into the final weeks of its inaugural season, the Santa Clara outdoor track team continued to compete well at the Woody Wilson Invitational in Davis, Calif. on Saturday.

The men's 1,500-meter run proved to be the top event for Santa Clara on Saturday as three Broncos placed in the top-10. John Paul Thyken led the way with a fifth-place finish in a time of 4:07.42. Michael Hannon finished seventh, crossing the line at 4:10.13. Taylor Graham round out the Bronco runners in the race, finishing in a time of 4:12.27, which was good for tenth place.

The SCU men also competed in the 800-meter race and the 5,000-meter run in Davis. Daniel Betten court represented the SCU contingent in the 800-meters, placing 25th in a time of 2:00.26. Michael Delaurenti and Chris Doerhoff both placed in the top-15 in the 5,000-meters. Delaurenti crossed the line in 11th-place in a time of 15:16.20, while Doerhoff clocked a 15:37.65 to place 14th.

On the women's side, Lauren Swigart had the best finish of the day as she raced in the 3,000-meters. She clocked a time if 10:58.18 to place 15th. Freshman Adriane Puetz joined Swigart in the run, placing 25th in a time of 11:24.01.

A trio of Bronco's raced in the 400-meters. Carrie Pogorelc led the way with a 1:03.98 to place 16th. Newcomers Julie Erickson and Jeanette Cote each performed well in the race, placing 17th and 21st, respectively. Erickson clocked a time of 1:04.11, while Cote crossed the line at 1:05.56.

The Bronco women wrapped up their day in the 1,500-meter run. Blosson Marimpietri placed 19th in a time of 5:10.23, while Ann Thomas placed 24th in a time of 5:18.48.

Both programs will be back in action next weekend at the Bruce Drummond Invitational in Sacramento, Calif.
