Track Runs Well at UC Davis Aggie Open

The Santa Clara track team returned to action at UC Davis on Saturday, participating in the Aggie Open. Host UC Davis, WCC rivals USF and Saint Mary's, Sacramento State, Nevada, Chico State, Cal State Stanislaus, several junior colleges and open competitors were on hand as well. 

A select group of Broncos hit the track again next week at Sac State for the the Hornet Invitational, before the entire team returns to action on March 25th and 26th at the San Francisco Distance Carnival and the Stanford Invitational.

Competeing in only the second meet of the season at UC Davis, there were a number of strong performances by Bronco athletes as they continue to prepare for the later stages of the season. Junior Austin Jones had a solid race in the men's 3000m, setting a personal best of 8:43.75 for second place in his heat. Also running personal bests in the men's 3000m were freshman Luca Signore (8:50.39) and freshman Moises Venegas (8:55.12). In the women's 3000m, junior Nicole Giove ran a personal best of 10:32.83 and redshirt-freshman Carey Parker also ran well finishing in 10:46.05.

Freshman Allie Sibole ran a strong second half of the women's 1500m, running a personal best of 4:51.61.  Sophomore Erin Hartwig ran 4:54.51 in the same race. Junior Richard Zhu had the best performance of the day for SCU in the men's 1500m, finishing in 4:04.65.

The 800m provided some of the best marks of the competition for Santa Clara. Sophomore Hayley Ney ran a personal best of 2:17.54 and placed fith overall in the event. Senior Robbie Reid continued his good start to the young season finishing the men's 800m in 1:54.02, a slight improvement over last week. Reid was also fifth overall.

Also running the 800m, sophomore Guadalupe Gonzalez ran a 1:55.63 and sophomore Matt Mosier ran 1:59.54.
