SCU Track Has Great Day at SF State Distance Carnival, Reid Runs Well at Stanford

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - The Santa Clara University track team traveled north to San Francisco State to participate in the annual distance carnival and Robbie Reid competed at the Stanford Invitational. Reid was running in his first 1500m of the season, and performed well, clocking a 3:55.01, his best-ever seasonal debut.
 
Further north, Reid's teammates also performed very well. Nicole Giove started the day off with her first-ever 10k. The junior ran 38:01.66 finishing in fourth place. Freshman Luca Signore used a strong final lap to take the overall win in the men's 10k. Signore's time of 30:55.11 ranks second all-time at SCU and is a freshman record. Junior Austin Jones was with Signore with one mile to go but suffered a side stitch. Jones held on to finish eighth overall in a personal best of 31:33.96, good for third all-time at SCU. Gareth Morl also set a personal best running 33:41.18.
 
The women's 1500m also provided some personal and seasonal bests. Sophomore Hayley Ney continued her outstanding sophomore campaign running a seasonal best of 4:43.01 for sixth overall in the event. Right on her heals was freshman Allie Sibole who set a lifetime best of 4:44.69 for 13th overall. Sophomore Erin Hartwig ran a seasonal best of 4:53.49 as did Junior Jenny Light (4:56.89). Megan Murnane ran a seasonal best of 5:02.66 and Sophomore Rebecca Murillo ran a personal best of 5:06.44.
 
The men's 3000m steeple chase provided a great deal of excitement. Junior Richard Zhu collided with another athlete going over the first water barrier and was trampled in the water pit. He recovered and gamely went on to finish in 10:02.36. Junior Nhunguyen Le ran a seasonal best of 9:59.56, but the best performance was turned in by freshman Ben Demaree. Demaree, running in only his second-ever steeple took 18 seconds off his previous best time and ran 9:26.14, good for ninth overall, third all-time at SCU and an SCU freshman record.
 
The 800m also went well for the Broncos as Allie Sibole doubled back from her 1500m race to run 2:21.69, a seasonal best. In the men's 800m senior Josh Hernandez had his best race in a few years crossing the line in 1:55.85. Sophomore Matt Mosier ran the second best time of his career (1:57.22) and sophomore Guadalupe Gonzalez ran a seasonal best of 1:54.71, good for fifth overall.
 
The 5000m was the final event of the day for the Broncos. Redshirt freshman Carrie Parker ran a personal best of 18:18.66 and Kayla Germany also ran a personal best of 19:17.49. In the men's 5000m freshman Moises Venegas became the second Bronco to take a fall as he went down hard just before the 3200m mark. He finished the race in 15:30.68. Redshirt-junior Chris Sampson continued his comeback from injury running 15:32.40.
