SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) - Doron Perkins scored 13 of his 17 points in the first half to lead Santa Clara over Loyola Marymount 70-54 on Saturday night.

Kyle Bailey added 16 points for Santa Clara (11-7, 3-0 West Coast Conference), which won its third straight and remains unbeaten in league play. Travis Niesen scored 11 points on 4-4 shooting for the Broncos, while Kyle Bailey added 16 points and eight rebounds.

Sherman Gay scored 17 points and grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds for Loyola Marymount (9-7, 1-3). Keith Kincaide added 15 points for the Lions.

Santa Clara took a 36-28 halftime lead behind Perkins' scoring and a tough defense that at one point held Loyola Maryount scoreless for 6:07. The Broncos registered 11 steals for the second-straight game and Perkins recorded six of those. His total was the second-most in school history and just one short of the school record.

The Bronco defense caused 16 Loyola Marymount turnovers and Santa Clara was able to convert those into 24 points. SCU had a 24-14 edge in points off turnovers for the game.

Santa Clara opened the second half with a 12-4 run that included eight straight points from Bailey, including two 3-pointers. His basket with 15:40 remaining gave the Broncos a 48-32 lead, and they never led by fewer than 10 the rest of the way.

Santa Clara benefited from a big advantage at the free-throw line, hitting 15 of 24 shots. Loyola Marymount only went to the line seven times, hitting six.

The Broncos return to action Thursday when they travel to Moraga to play Saint Mary's, which was knocked-off 75-61 at Gonzaga tonight. The next home game for Santa Clara is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 29 when it hosts Portland. Tickets are available by clicking here.
