Men's Hoops Returns To Action Monday

Nov. 30, 2003

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Fresh of its five-point win over Fresno State on Saturday, the Santa Clara men's basketball team returns to the court Monday night when it hosts Holy Names College at 7 p.m. in the Leavey Center on the Mission Campus.

Tickets are available by calling the Santa Clara Athletic Ticket Office at 408/554-4660. The game will air live on the Bronco Radio Network, which is anchored by flagship radio station KSFB-AM 1220 in the Bay Area. The broadcast will also be avaiable on the Internet through the College Sports Pass by clicking here. Live statistical coverage will also be available through GameTracker.

The Broncos enter the early-season contest with a 2-2 overall record and with a two-game win streak after knocking off the visiting Bulldogs 69-64 Saturday night. After dropping its first two games of the year by narrow margins, Santa Clara righted itself with a 76-62 win over Central Michigan Wednesday in the seventh-place game at the EA SPORTS Maui Invitational.

After Monday's game, the Broncos travel just 3.7 miles up The Alameda to San Jose State's Event Center to play the Spartans in the annual Rivalry Series game on Wednesday night. The winner of the contest receives three points towards the all-sports competition between the two schools. Tickets are available by calling 408/924-SJTX (408/924-7589). Inform the SJSU ticket office of your school affiliation to be seated with other Bronco fans.

Holy Names, a NAIA Division II school based in Oakland, Calif., is 1-7 on the season but brings a one-game win streak into Monday's game after knocking off Hope International by a score of 96-85 in a tournament at Biola University in La Mirada, Calif. on Saturday.

In Saturday's win over Fresno State, junior Kyle Bailey scored a season-high 21 points including the Broncos' final seven points and a game-sealing three-pointer that he banked off the backboard. Sophomore forward Travis Niesen helped the Broncos forge a 26-25 halftime lead by scoring eight of his 13 points and grabbing six of his nine rebounds by intermission.
