Second Half Surge Pushes Oregon To Win

Final Stats

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) - Luke Jackson scored 23 points and Andre Joseph added 15 for Oregon in a 94-71 victory over Santa Clara on Wednesday night.

Jackson scored 15 points in the second half as the Ducks (4-1) turned a four-point halftime lead into a blowout. It was Oregon's 24th consecutive win at McArthur Court against a nonconference opponent and the Ducks' 94 points marked only the eighth time in Dick Davey's tenure a Bronco opponent surpassed the 90-point plateau.

Santa Clara returns home Saturday night in the first of its final five non-league games of the season against Mississippi State. The Broncos will host Maryland, Baltimore Co. Monday night before the holiday break.

Jackson was 8-for-16 from the field and had six rebounds for the Ducks, who shot 53 percent in the game. Aaron Brooks added 13 points for Oregon, while Jay Anderson had 11 and Ian Crosswhite 10.

Doron Perkins scored 20 for the Broncos (6-4), who had won six straight, while freshman center Sean Denison added 16.

"It was a story of two different halves," said Davey. "In the first half, we were able to hang in there and we kept the game interesting. The second half was kind of a disaster for us. For about 10 minutes or so they really got a lot of open looks. You have to give (Oregon) credit. They have good players and they made the shots when they had to.

"But, I'm not entirely discouraged. We did some good things tonight and I'm optimistic we'll be able to continue to progress in a positive manner."

Santa Clara went through a 7:25 stretch in the second half in which it made only one field goal. In the meantime, Oregon took off on a 15-8 run that made it 69-52.

A 3-pointer by Anderson put the Ducks up 76-56 with 7:21 to play. Oregon led by as many as 28 points.

The Broncos played without the services of junior point guard Kyle Bailey, who sat out the game due to an ankle injury, and Ethan Rohde. A starter at guard, Rohde contracted a virus and was unable to play.
