SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Despite double-digit scoring nights from guards Kevin Foster and Evan Roquemore, Santa Clara dropped its second overtime game of the week, losing a heartbreaker to UC Santa Barbara 83-80. Santa Clara will look to bounce back in their next game when they host Pacific Union on Dec., 8. The Broncos played back-to-back overtime games for the first time since 2003 when they split back-to-back extra-time games with Mississippi and Maryland-Baltimore. 

Santa Clara (5-2) was led by Foster who tallied 28 points. With four threes, Kevin Foster has 335 career threes and is one behind No. 2 on the all-time WCC career threes made list (336, Portland's Jared Stohl, 2007-11 in 126 career games). The WCC record was set by LMU's Jeff Fryer from 1987-90 when he scored 363 in 112 career games.

Roquemore scored 22 points and added five assists. Niyi Harrison and Marc Trasolini had double-digit rebounds, 11 and 10 respectively. 

Alan Williams led the Guachos while tallying a double-double. He scored 29 points while grabbing 17 boards. 

Santa Clara shot 36.9 percent from the field (24 of 65), including 31 percent from beyond the arc (9 of 29). Santa Clara made 23 of 35 free throws and UCSB made 24 of 35.  SCU had 20 assists, 43 rebounds, nine steals, three blocks and had 12 turnovers.  UCSB shot 45.3 percent from the field (24 of 53), including 44 percent from beyond the arc (11 of 25).  UCSB had 19 assists, 40 rebounds, nine steals, four blocks and had 17 turnovers. 

Both teams struggled to find their offensive rhythm early. Heading into the first media timeout, the Gauchos led 4-3. 

The Broncos found offensive life from two of the Bronco big-men. Denzel Johnson swiped a Guacho pass and found Robert Garrett who wowed the crowd with a two-handed jam. On the next SCU possession, Niyi Harrison added another dunk after a Gaucho turnover. Garrett added a layup to give Santa Clara a 9-6 advantage before UCSB evened the contest with a three-pointer from Kyle Boswell. 

Santa Clara found its three-point stroke as Raymond Cowels III and Roquemore hit triples on consecutive possessions. Roquemore added a layup to put the Bronco lead at 20-16. 

With 4:50 remaining in the half, Santa Clara trailed 23-22. Santa Clara continued to take advantage of second-chance opportunities to regain the lead. Trasolini pulled down the Broncos' eighth offensive rebound and found Foster who knocked down wide-open three. Heading into the half, Santa Clara led 30-28

In the first half, Santa Clara shot 34.4 percent from the field (11 of 32), including 23.1 percent from beyond the arc (3 of 14). Santa Clara made five of 10 free throws and UCSB made three of eight.  SCU had eight assists, 22 rebounds, six steals, one block and had six turnovers.  UCSB shot 45.8 percent from the field (11 of 24 of), including 37.5 percent from beyond the arc (3 of 8).  The Gauchos had seven assists, 17 rebounds, four steals, two block and had six turnovers. 

To open the second half, Santa Clara's three-point shooting fueled their offensive attack. Foster found his stroke from three, hitting three in the first four minutes of the second half. After two minutes of scoreless basketball, UCSB took the lead 52-51. Cowels III gave the crowd some life and the Broncos the lead with a three-pointer and Harrison sunk to free throws to give SCU a three-point advantage. However, Santa Barbara was hitting the three-ball as well. The Gauchos matched the Broncos until a Thomas triple pulled UCSB within two, 48-46.

Entering the four-minute media timeout, the Broncos clung to a one-point lead 60-59. 

With just three minutes left, Williams continued to fuel the Gaucho offense. Williams hit a mid-range jumper to take the lead. The teams traded two-pointers  over the next two minutes. 

In the final minute, Santa Clara had possession with 51.8 seconds remaining. Foster drained two big free throws to give the Broncos a two-point cushion, 67-65. Roquemore extended the lead with two free throws of his own. Brown hit a three that cut Santa Clara's lead to 69-68 with 8.2 seconds remaining. 

The Gauchos were forced to foul and Cowels III knocked down two free throws to give Santa Clara a three-point lead. 

Boswell pulled off last-second heroics for UCSB knocking down a contested three that sent Santa Clara to its second-straight overtime game. 

To begin overtime, Williams converted one of two free-throws to give UCSB a point-lead. Foster gave the Broncos the lead with a layup. T.J. Taylor answered with a layup that put the favor back towards UCSB. Williams again converted just one free-throw that extended Santa Barbara's lead to 75-73. After a key defensive stop, Roquemore put Santa Clara ahead, 76-75, with a three-pointer. UCSB rattled off a layup and a series of free-throws to take a four-point advantage with 21.4 seconds left. 

Roquemore hit two free throws to give Santa Clara life and pull within two. 

DaRe hit one free throw for UCSB with 9.8 seconds left to give Santa Clara the ball down three. The Gauchos fouled Roquemore to force the Broncos to take two. The Broncos were unable to come back and fell 83-80.
