GOLD RIVER, Calif. - The Santa Clara men's crew team won three of their five dual races against Sacramento State on Saturday. The Broncos finished first in the Varsity Eight, Lightweight Four and the Varsity Four.
In the JV Four, Santa Clara lost 10 seconds at the start due to crab on second stroke. However, the Broncos caught the Hornets at 500m to the finish and held with them til the very end. SCU (7:11) finished just three seconds behind Sac State (7:08).
Meanwhile, the women's crew team opened its spring season with hard-fought losses in the varsity eight, novice eight, varsity four and novice four competitions against Sacramento State.
The Broncos return to the water on Sunday, March 8 in the Davis Invitational Rowing Tournament. Santa Clara will compete against UC Davis, Sonoma State, Cal and CMA. The men will race in the Varsity Eight, Novice Eight, JV Eight, Varsity Four, JV Four and Novice Four. The women will race in the Varsity Eight, Novice Eight, Varsity Four and Novice Four. The races being at 8 a.m. and continue in 15 minute intervals. The final race - the men's novice four - is scheduled for an 11 a.m. start.
