SCU Women's Crew Heads to WCC Championships Friday

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara women's crew team travels to Sacramento to participate in the 2009 West Coast Conference Women's Rowing Championships on Friday, May 1 at Lake Natoma.

There will three races beginning at 9:20 a.m. The first race of the tournament is the Four Race, followed by two Eight races at 9:40 and 10 a.m., respectively. The Championships will conclude with a 10:45 a.m. awards ceremony.

The Broncos will compete against Gonzaga, Loyola Marymount, Saint Mary's and San Diego. For up-to-date results of the WCC Championships, please visit the 2009 WCC Women's Rowing Championship Central Page.

Last year, the Broncos took fifth place with their best finish coming in the II-Eight. The Bulldogs earned WCC Championship with three first place finishes.

Santa Clara then continues action at the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association (WIRA) event on Saturday, May 2 and Sunday, May 3 at the Sacramento State Aquatic Center. Both the men and women's rowing teams will participate in the two-day event. Last year, the men had six boats make the Grand Finals and were only two points behind first place.
