Men's Golf in Second Place at Sacramento State Invitational

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The Santa Clara University men's golf team sits in a tie for second place as a team following the first two rounds of the Sacramento State Invitational Monday afternoon at Rancho Murietta Country Club. The team posted rounds of 301 and 302 at the 6,839-yard, par-72 golf course.

UC Davis finished the first two rounds at 595, eight strokes better than Santa Clara (603) and Saint Mary's (603), which is tied for second after completion of the first two rounds. Cal State Stanislaus (614) and Chico State (618) round out the top five teams, while Sacramento State (628), Portland (636) and Gonzaga (656) complete the field. The Aggies were the only team to break 300 on a round, firing a tournament-best 296 in the morning followed by a 299 in the afternoon round.

Individually, Santa Clara's Blake Lugar leads the way as he went 70-71 and finished the day at 3-under par, 141. He holds a two-stroke lead over Restrepo (70-73 -- 143) and Saint Mary's Joe Lanza (73-70 -- 143) with Westerlund (70-74 -- 144) in fourth and Sacramento State's Tanner Makimoto (71-75 -- 146) fifth.

Justin Ahasic and Michael Nicoletti were the next top finishers on the day for the Broncos, each finishing the day at 10-over par and tied for 12th. Jonathan Edwards and Matt Klenz rounded out the Bronco scoring as both are tied for 20th at 12-over par.

The third and final round will be contested Tuesday morning at Rancho Murietta. Following this even the Broncos will return to action at the UCSB Bite Invitational on March 31st and April 1st.
