SIMI VALLEY, Calif. - The Santa Clara University men's golf squad sits in 10th place after the first two rounds of the Countrywide Home Loans Invitational hosted by Cal State Northridge at the Wood Ranch Golf Club in Simi Valley, Calif.
As a team Santa Clara fired a first round score of 308, but improved in the second round with a team score of 303, moving them up two spots from round one to round two. The 6,730 yard, par-72 track proved to play very hard for the 20 teams in the tournament with 31 of the 40 scores being over 300.
Justin Ahasic posted the top scores for the Broncos on day one, firing rounds of 73 and 71 to finish the day in a tie for fifth place at even par, just six strokes off the lead. Vincent Aicale shot a first round 75 but followed that up with a second round 78 to end day one in a tie for 37th place at 9-over par.
Michael Nicoletti had a disappointing opening round of 8-over par, 80, but followed that up with a 75 to end his first day of competitive collegiate golf in a tie for 48th place at 11-over par. Jonathan Edwards fired round of 80 and 79 and sits in a tie for 70th after the first two rounds, while Blake Lugar rounded out the Bronco scoring with rounds of 81 and 80. Lugar will enter the third and final round in a tie for 81st.
The third round in scheduled for Tuesday morning at the Wood Ranch Golf Club with the Broncos only 12 shots out of the top five.
