Stewart Named WCC's Defender of the Year

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara junior Jeff Stewart, of Bellevue, Wash., was named the West Coast Conference's Defender of the Year, the conference announced today.

Five other Broncos also received All-WCC recognition. Senior defender Michael Goehring of Fresno, senior midfielder Brett Davis of Rancho Palos Verdes, junior forward Anthony Chimienti of San Jose and junior goalkeeper Rusty Johnson of O'Fallon, Ill., were named to the second team, while senior midfielder Joe Ascolese of Chattaroy, Wash., earned honorable mention all-conference honors.

Player of the Year honors were shared by LMU's Arturo Torres and San Diego's Ryan Coiner. Nate Jaqua of Portland earned Freshman of the Year honors while the Coach of the Year award was given to Seamus McFadden of San Diego.

The Broncos finished their season 10-7-0, 4-2-0 in the WCC. Santa Clara finished in third-place in the league, marking the 14th-straight year the Broncos have finished third or higher in conference standings.
