STOCKTON, Calif. – Santa Clara men's soccer tied, 1-1, at Pacific on Saturday night. The Broncos took the lead in the first half but could only keep the advantage for just over a minute before the Tigers equalized.
"I thought we had great spirit today," head coach Cameron Rast said. "I think our guys gave a lot. We bent a lot, they brought a lot to us and we didn't break. That's really important for our group right now, to be committed all the way through. It's not a great result for us but I'm proud of our guys for what they put into it and what we got out of it."
Santa Clara (5-7-1, 0-3-1 WCC) struck first at the 20:33 mark from the head of junior Carlos Delgadillo. His third goal of the season, and the first for the Broncos in four games, came off a header. Senior Brennan Castro crossed the ball from the left wing to Delgadillo at the far post and then Delgadillo headed it to the far corner to beat the goalkeeper.
"We broke the seal, which is great and we got our goal," Rast said. "It was a great goal. The quality of the service was very high and the quality of the goal was really classy, very professional-like. So that part I felt very good about."

Pacific (10-3-1, 2-1-1 WCC) equalized at the 21:46 mark off a set piece. Anthony Orendain got his head on the initial ball that senior goalkeeper Pasha Hashemi saved. On the rebound, Tristan Blackmon beat Hashemi to tie the game up at 1.
"I'm very disappointed, though, only in the sense that it was under two minutes before they equalized," Rast said. "It's very important that our concentration is really good after a goal because you have to re-establish yourself in the game and we didn't."
Regulation ended with the score tied at 1. After the final horn, there was some extracurricular activities that took place, resulting in a red card for Satoshi "Yoshi" Chaffin and Pacific's Tristan Blackmon. Yellow cards were assessed to Parker Holland and Wouter Verstraaten and Ander Saez of Pacific.

Playing 10-on-10, neither team scored in the overtime period but the Broncos seemed to be in control of the play, taking five shots to Tigers' two. Overall, Pacific out-shot Santa Clara 21-10 and won seven corner kicks to SCU's three.
The Broncos return to action on Oct. 30 at St. Mary's (CA) for a 1 p.m. PT kickoff.
