Four Men’s Soccer Student-Athletes Garner WCC All-Academic Honors

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara men's soccer had four student-athletes recognized by the West Coast Conference on Wednesday for their strong work in the classroom. In order to be honored by the league, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, be a significant contributor to the team while also being at least a sophomore academically.

Redshirt junior Kyle Schumann is an All-Academic honoree for the second-straight year. The mechanical engineering major boasts a 3.55 GPA and was a key part in the Broncos defense that was one of the best in the conference during the 2016 season.

Junior defender Valdemar Andersen is an All-Academic Honorable Mention for the second-consecutive season. As an accounting major, Andersen boasts a 3.62 GPA. The league also recognized him for his play on the field this season with Second Team All-WCC accolades.

This is senior defensive midfielder Parker Holland's second time being a WCC All-Academic Honorable Mention. Holland boasts a 3.202 GPA and will graduate from Santa Clara in the spring of 2017 with a degree in finance. As a starter in all 16 games, Holland was an essential part of the Broncos defense and won numerous headers to help the team earn or keep possession of the ball.

Sophomore Matthew Sipowicz is an All-Academic Honorable Mention for the first time in his career. Sipowicz has a 3.77 GPA and is currently studying in the Leavey School of Business. Playing in ten games for the Broncos, Sipowicz provided support in the midfield and helped the Broncos in the attack as well.
