SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The No. 47 Santa Clara men's tennis team (9-6 overall) lost 5-1 vs. No. 20 Washington (13-4 overall) on Tues., Mar. 22.  It was the first match the Broncos have dropped at home this season.

The match began with singles play due to unstable weather conditions. All of the doubles matches went unfinished due to rain.

Tom Pham provided the only Bronco victory at the No. 5 spot. As his teammates were struggling with the weather and the opponents, Pham defeated Washington's Tobi Obenaus comfortably in straight-sets, 6-1, 6-1. Pham's win extended his winning-streak to nine, beginning with a contest against Loyola Marymount's on Feb. 5.

At the No.1 position, Kyle Dandan was felled by No. 86 Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan, 6-3, 6-4.

In No. 2 and 3 spots, Maxime Armengaud and John Lamble played hard against the Huskies' No. 52 Kyle McMorrow and No. 71 Martin Kildahl, respectively, taking each opponent to a tie-breaker set, but were unable to edge out their opponents. Armengaud fell, 6-2, 7-6, and Lamble lost, 7-6, 6-2.

Engene Muchynski at No. 6 won the first set but was unable to top Marton Bots, falling 4-6, 6-2, 6-2.

Santa Clara will play again on Thurs., Mar. 24, hosting UC Riverside if the weather improves. The first serve is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
