No. 49 Men’s Tennis Continues to Build Strong Record at Home, Dropping No. 46 Idaho 6-1

SANTA CLARA Calif. - The No. 49-ranked Santa Clara University men's tennis team continued its winning streak, making it three straight wins now after a 6-1 victory against the Western Athletic Conference opponent No. 46-ranked University of Idaho (16-5) following recent wins over Gonzaga, 7-0, and Pacific, 4-3. This gives Santa Clara an 8-1 record at home.

The next match for the Broncos (12-7) is the last dual match of the season against the Big Sky Conference foe Sacramento State on Mon., Apr. 18. The match is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. and is the Broncos final home match of the season.

SCU grabbed the early doubles point by defeating its opponents at No. 1 and 2 positions. The junior doubles pair Maxime Armengaud and Nicholas Vinel topped Idaho's Marius Cirstea and Alex Joitoiu, 8-5, at the No.1 spot. Although Eugene Muchynski and John Lamble dropped their match by an 8-3 score, Bronco teammates Kyle Dandan and Tom Pham earned the doubles point for the team with an 8-6 victory against Jose Bendeck and Lachlan Reed at No. 2 action. 

Lamble and Keith Kamono grabbed fast victories over Idaho at the No. 3 and 6 positions in singles. In No. 1 singles action, Dandan earned a win, 6-4, 6-2, against Idaho's No. 123 nationally-ranked Marius Cirstea. Vinel fought hard in the longest singles match of the season competitively but dropped with it 4-6, 7-6, with a 21-19 tiebreaker  score at No. 5 spot. Armengaud at No. 2 and Tom Pham at No. 4 secured third-set victories to round out the Bronco scoring.
