INTERVIEWS/HIGHLIGHTS WITH McCLONE, WILL GRANT
SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara's Graham McClone was named the KAP7 Western Water Polo Association Player of the Week, as announced today by the conference. McClone was terrific during the Broncos' five-game homestand last week.
The junior driver from Placerville, Calif. and Ponderosa High School led 16th-ranked SCU to a 4-1 record, which included wins over three ranked opponents. He had 12 goals, six assists, nine steals, and five earned ejections over the five games.
"There is no better feeling out here than winning," said McClone after Santa Clara capped off its home tournament with a win over No. 13 Bucknell. "It is awesome to see our work paying off. It was not just me out here at all, Will Grant and John Raineri, and playing good defense, counter-attacking, we are really playing well as a group."
The week began with an exciting 9-8 WWPA win over Cal Baptist on Thursday night, before the Broncos went 3-1 at their home tournament, The Rodeo. Those three wins included a 13-11 overtime win over No. 10 Brown, 12-9 win over No. 18 St. Francis, and the 12-8 win over No. 13 Bucknell.
The Broncos are again ranked No. 16 nationally in the latest NCAA Top-25 poll.
