No. 17 Men’s Water Polo Falls to Air Force; Enters Final Week of Regular Season

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – After winning their first conference matchup of the weekend over Fresno Pacific, the No. 17 Santa Clara men’s water polo team fell short to conference rival No. 18 Air Force with a final score of 11-9.

The Broncos faced a one goal deficit entering halftime. Goals by Garrat Johnson, Graham, McClone, and John Raineri in the third quarter gave the Broncos a 9-8 lead entering the final period.

Air Force shut out SCU in the fourth quarter and scored three of their own to make the final score 11-9.

Raineri and Owen Asalone led the Broncos with two goals each. Goalkeeper Joe Maestri had 15 saves in the loss.

Santa Clara finished the weekend with one win and one loss, moving their overall record to 10-18 and their conference record to 2-4.

The Broncos start their last week of the regular season with a matchup at No. 5 Stanford on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
