SANTA CLARA, Calif. – After leading her team to a win at the Air Force Classic over the weekend, Santa Clara women's basketball senior Nici Gilday was named the West Coast Conference Player of the Week on Monday. She was named MVP and to the All-Tournament Team at the Air Force Classic.

"I feel honored to be recognized this week," said Gilday. "My coaches did a great job of scouting and preparing us for the tournament and the girls came out hard. It was a really good weekend of basketball for our team."

"It is exciting for Nici to be recognized in our conference among such talented teams and players," said Santa Clara head coach JR Payne. "She is the leader on our team and has done well for us so far this season. She is starting to feel comfortable in our offense and starting to gel with everything we're doing. I'm sure it was an honor for her but if you asked her I'm sure she would say she was much more excited for the team to win."

In three games on the week, including one at home vs. Cal Poly, Gilday averaged 21.7 ppg, topped by a 33-point effort vs. UC Davis. Gilday shot 49.0% (24-49) from the field and 35.0% (7-20) from three. She was also a perfect 10-10 from the charity stripe. She added 3.3 rpg, 1.7 apg, and 1.3 spg.
